Really enjoyed this place! We tried the chicken and shrimp tacos, quesadilla, and nachos, and everything tasted great. The food was fresh and full of flavor. The restaurant has a nice old, vintage vibe, which made it feel cozy and unique. The service was fast and friendly. Overall, a great place for good food and a nice atmosphere. Would definitely visit again!
Here’s a five-star review you can cut and paste for El Coyote Café (7312 Beverly Blvd) — old-school, Los Angeles-style, and full of character. ⸻ From the moment you step into El Coyote Café you sense you’ve wandered into a living piece of LA history. The low-lit dining room, the murals, the sprawling bar and patio all whisper stories of the city’s past while delivering a lively present. The chips and salsa arrive almost immediately, generous and crisp, setting the tone for a true Mexican-food fête. Highlights? Where to begin. The Enchilada Howard, a nod to tradition, arrives bathed in chile con carne — cheese enchilada done the right way. I also opted for the sizzling fajitas, the aroma of grilled onions and peppers mingling with tender strips of steak. And if you’re feeling adventurous, the shrimp fajitas hit the sweet-spot of briny and smoky. Add in the house margarita — potent and refreshing — and you’ve got the kind of meal that sticks in your memory. What makes this place stand out is not just the food but the vibe: decades-old, warmly worn, unabashedly festive. It’s the kind of spot where locals bring visiting friends, families celebrate milestones, and cocktails flow like old times. You don’t come here for minimalist plating or molecular flourishes—you come for real-deal hearty Mexican classics served with flair and embedded in LA culture. If you’re after the best of old-school Mexican in Los Angeles, El Coyote Café hits the mark with style, flavour and a touch of nostalgia. Five stars all the way.
El Coyote is a legend since 1931. They have great Mexican food including their salsas. Our favorite meal is the buffalo tacos. Marinated buffalo meat, with beans and rice. And their chicken enchiladas are ridiculous, they are big and have plenty of chicken on the inside and more on the outside. It's really awesome. Old school charm, it's been in a lot of movies and tv shows. The staff is very friendly, and the food comes out quick. Good for couples or big families. Get there early or you might have to wait a bit.
Had not visited in 10 years so was really looking forward to it (lunch on a friday).Well greeted/attended at check in desk. First impression was the restaurant smelled like my grandma's house in Granada Hills (old musty carpet) mixed with delicious Mexican food smell. Server was not very personable at first as he seemed to be by himself running the patio and inside dining area (he did warm up towards the end of the meal). Food was hot and tasty, prices were ok ($9 cup of soup and $8 for beans and rice?). Looking forward to returning someday once they revamp it a little. Sticking to Casa Vega for the moment.
Fun, lively spot with a classic old-school LA vibe. Strong margaritas and great energy, especially for groups. Food is amazing too. Must go😍
