It’s been a while since I’ve been here, but the delicious jjamppong I used to enjoy is gone. I hope the dish becomes great again.🥲
House of Joy Heung Rae Gak in Buena Park is hands down my favorite spot for Korean/Chinese food. The service is always amazing and makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Every dish I’ve tried is absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. The best part is that it won’t break the bank. Seriously, this place hits all the marks for great food, great service, and a great price. Highly recommend it to anyone craving amazing Korean/Chinese dishes!
Went there on Christmas evening the place was very busy but the staff was very kind and wait was not to long. The service was excellent and the food was very good.
Been here many times before. Food has always been "just okay" but I come here time to time with coworkers because it's near our office. Tonight was probably one of the worst experiences I've had. From the start, the server (korean lady in her 40s-50s) was condescending toward us. As a Korean American, I am very familiar with how rude Koreans can be but this was excessive and much to my disliking. We weren't a very large party (6 to be exact). Because we were sharing some fried rice and mapo tofu we asked for 6 bowls and, in Korean, she replied, "Why do you need bowls? For what? Oh, for the rice. Why can't you just eat it on the plates?" Mind you, I've been here with older, more senior Korean coworkers (with parties of 8-10 people), asked for the same thing, and never had an issue. That was just the start. Aside from a few other rude instances that feel unnecessary to name, the final was the kicker. Story time... The itemized bill (not pictured) comes out with a handwritten "18%" listed underneath the total. It was clear she was implying that we were to tip 18%... based on our 'large party.' I kinda just shrugged at it because, though rude, it's not the worst thing I've seen a waiter do in a restaurant. I put my card down, she took it, and comes back with the bill needing tip and signature. And, as pictured, the server(s) put checked off, circled, and wrote the total ($157.20, not my handwriting). A red flag went off in my head so a friend checked and seems like it's not legal practice for a restaurant to manually write the tip and total on a bill for the customer. No, I did not see any sign for automatic gratituity for size of a party. And I think this must be in violation of "true tip" policy. I plan on filing a complaint and see if this violates any local state consumer protection laws.
It's a pretty good jjampong spot in Buena Park! A Koreanized Chinese comfort food spot. It's been a few years since I last visited, and current owners have it right with jjangmyun and Jjampong. Noodle portion was on the light side. Service is prompt but not very friendly. Maybe the server was having an off-day. Restaurant is fairly tidy. I would definitely visit for another craving of jjangmyun.
