Consultation Date: May 29, 2024 Cost: $500 for a one-hour phone consultation Consultation Details and Issues: I had a one-hour phone consultation to review a contract revision. During the consultation, the attorney mentioned that the contract I submitted contained many unfair provisions. I was already aware of this, so I requested that the contract I submitted be revised to reflect my circumstances. However, whenever I tried to express my position, the attorney immediately interrupted me and told me not to sign the contract. Since I had no choice but to sign the contract, telling me not to sign it was not an option for me. As a result, the consultation proceeded in a direction completely unrelated to my intentions and circumstances. A client's fundamental right to have a full explanation of the issues they seek to resolve through consultation was denied. Isn't the purpose of a consultation to understand the client's issues and provide appropriate advice and solutions tailored to their circumstances? However, the attorney ignored my opinion and imposed his own. Follow-up and Additional Issues: The attorney even informed me that he could not sign a contract with so many unfavorable clauses and told me to hire another attorney. This was an unexpected situation, and I was not informed of this in advance. During the consultation, he constantly interrupted me, preventing sufficient communication and ending the one-sided consultation. However, I did not have the financial means to pay additional fees to consult with another attorney. After the consultation, I attempted to contact Julie, an office employee, several times, but received no response beyond the response, "Attorney Shin Hye-won has requested that you refer to another attorney." Ultimately, this ineffective response, which turned away my client, left me with a significant financial burden. I am now faced with the need to hire a new attorney at additional fees. On May 29, 2024, I paid $500 for a one-hour legal consultation. During the consultation, the attorney highlighted several unfair clauses in the contract I had submitted. However, when I attempted to explain my situation and request specific adjustments to the contract, my attempts to communicate were interrupted, and my concerns were not addressed. It is a fundamental right for a client to have the opportunity to fully explain their situation and receive tailored advice. The attorney's actions, including dismissing my input and imposing their own opinions, compromised this right and did not respect my expectations. Ultimately, the consultation did not address my needs and proceeded in a manner unrelated to my objectives. I was subsequently informed that the attorney could not sign the contract and was advised to seek another attorney. This unexpected turn of events, coupled with insufficient communication, left me in a difficult position. Due to financial constraints, Its' hard to afford a new lawyer for further consultations. Despite several attempts to contact office staff Julie, I received only a generic response indicating that the attorney recommended seeking another attorney. This lack of effective communication and resolution has placed an additional financial burden on me. Overall, I am deeply disappointed and find this experience to be a significant failure in service quality and client support. The lack of effective communication and inadequate service provision has left me dissatisfied with the consultation process.
