Employees camp the pokemon machine while they are working, tried contacting management and they said they can’t do anything without a specific name. I think it should be an announcement to all employees that it is inappropriate to check the machine while working, won’t continue shopping until this matter is resolved.

My partner and I used to love shopping at the Gelson’s Encino location. We’ve been regular customers and always enjoyed coming here for our groceries. Unfortunately, that changed today. On January 14th, 2026 at around 5:55 PM, while running errands, we stopped in to grab ingredients for dinner. As we were leaving, we were stopped at the door by an employee who told us that his manager had instructed him to “keep an eye” on us. He then asked if we had paid for the items in our grocery bag. (We had our receipts and showed them in confusion) What makes this even more upsetting is that if anyone had actually been paying attention, they would have seen that we went to the register twice, as we initially forgot to grab one of the sauces we needed. Despite this, we were singled out, questioned, and treated with suspicion; without any explanation or justification. No reason was given for why we were being watched. No apology was offered. The interaction made it very clear that we were being profiled, and for all the wrong reasons. Instead of leaving as satisfied, loyal customers, we left feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and frankly gross. This experience completely changed how we view this store. We will not be shopping at this location anymore, and I strongly urge management to address how customers are being treated—because no one should be made to feel like a criminal simply for buying groceries.

Lots of parking, tons of options and fresh food. Friend staff, prices are always expensive here, but it’s expected. Highly recommend this location.

Go for the deli and quality groceries. Yes the groceries are pretty pricey compared to some other other supermarket offerings, but they’re selection of higher-quality brand certainly justifies some of the higher price points. I as well as many other Shore I’m feeling the hurt of inflation and rising grocery places. There are definitely some lunch staples that you can get at Gelson’s for under $10 and get yourself a really quality lunch.
