Rarely does a restaurant draw me back twice in one trip to NYC but there were so many outstanding Greek dishes on the menu that we went back 3 times in a week so we could try more of the fabulous lunch menu. We met friends the second time and they insisted coming back for a third time. My favorite dish ended up being a stuffed red pepper that was so good I missed taking photos before diving into it. The lamb stuffed cabbage leaf dolmades were also wonderful as was the Greek Salad. The price fix lunch options were also excellent. My husband had an outstanding watermelon salad with red wine vinaigrette and the chicken souvlaki skewers. The Marietta salad was also really good. Our server recommend a great Greek red wine and allowed us to linger. It was the perfect lunch in a beautiful setting. They have indoor and patio dining. We loved it so much that we begged the owner to open a Greek restaurant in Austin. Located in a great location convenient to the theater district, it’s our new favorite! We will be back to try the many menu items we missed!
Very friendly and welcoming. Professional service and very attentive. Spacious, light atmo. Dishes were disappointing. Dips were strange or bland. Hamachi crudo was very small but good. Calamari was ok. Bass had an overload of tomato sauce and couldnt taste the fish. Medium rare lamb was well done and pricey Wine by the glass is a nice pour.
When you get a plate that suprises the palate, like the Crispy Iceland Cod with marinated beets, skordalia, and micro herbs, and keeps you guessing on the flavors and application of flavor to food mediums (is this potato or is it cauliflower??) you know the chef has expertise that goes beyond just another sit down restaurant in the city. Calamari and octopus are usually our go-to's for apps, and we were pleasantly surprised by the way the octopus was prepared with santorini fava and vinsanto tomato compote. The grilled octopus was prepared as expected, but by adding the santorini fava (creamy Greek dip made from pureed yellow split peas, flavored with onion, garlic, lemon, and olive oil), and vinsanto tomato compote (tomatoe reduction infused with the distinctive sweet, nutty aroma of Vinsanto dessert wine, along with olive oil, onion, garlic, and herbs like basil and parsley), the dish offered granular but creamy texture through the santorini fava and depth of tanginess with the tomato compote. Overall we highly recommend this Greek Restaurant near Hells Kitchen if you're looking for innovative flavor applications and nuance with a familiar Greek taste!
Very loud and boomy space, and the tables are packed so close together you have to bump into other diners, which isn’t pleasant. We dined for winter restaurant week and our anniversary — they squeezed us in the back corner and it was freezing. Food overall we felt was bland, unseasoned, and not appetizing. A few items did not seem to match the menu description either (the winter salad with fennel was like grocery store cole slaw with small pieces of blood orange?). Salmon was served over a sweet cold risotto with no flavor… just not for us. Service was okay, but not warm and friendly. We wouldn’t return.
This restaurant is AMAZING I have eaten in a lot of Greek restaurants ranging from mediocre to excellent. Molyvos is outstanding. 15/10. If u r in New York and u want the absolute best Greek food this is your place to go. I am in awe. The service is equally the same, spectacular. Thank you for the best dinner and service.
