Nothing but the highest compliments to Opto - the hype is 100% warranted! First and foremost, this restaurant is beautiful… be sure to make a reservation, by 6:30 this place was packed. The Today You Are You cocktail, which was highly recommended by my waiter, is a like drinking a sparkling lemon drop - you’ll love this drink. My friend and I are both vegetarians, so we split the 3 vegetarian-friendly pastas (macaroni pomodoro, cavatelli pesto, and taglioni) and to be honest…all 3 were absolutely incredible and unique in their flavor. The pesto was the most basic of the options, and I think the fusilli was my favorite. It was definitely not too lemon-y so don’t let that scare you away. The side of the honey spiced carrots is also a must - these were some of the best carrots I’ve ever had. Do not skip dessert - the chocolate mousse is famous for a reason. We also tried the rice pudding, which was also very tasty. They make a perfect espresso martini here (and I’m very picky), so do order one to enjoy with your dessert. Overall, Opto takes a high spot of my list of top restaurants in the city. Make the reservation!

I went here with a large group. We tried a lot on the menu. In terms of appetizers, the salad, dips with bread, tuna crudo, and octopus were good but the octopus is more of a stand out. There are several vegetarian pasta options and I wish I had tried the cavatelli pesto but others I had weren’t particularly memorable so I’d suggest focusing on the meat and seafood. The display of the lobster pasta is cool though. The Canary Island Branzino and Lamb chops are really special. The side shishito peppers and potatoes were so well cooked and also very shareable sides. Don’t skip dessert. I really liked the dense lemon cake and chocolate mouse. The almond cookies are also gluten free.I didn’t get a photo but want to highlight the Good Humor non alcoholic cocktail that delivers on a “special cocktail” while practically appearing like a regular cocktail because so many other bars miss the mark here. In terms of vibe, it’s a surprisingly large restaurant with a small feel and would probably be a date night spot. It’s quiet enough to chat even though it’s packed. There are a few spots at the bar. Opto is a great spot for a special occasion with a warm neighborhood feel.

I came here tonight to celebrate my birthday with my mom. I had heard about this place from a food blogger who raved about the food. It was absolutely spectacular. The food was everything I had hoped it would be. We had the sunchoke and octopus appetizer, the pesto pasta and ribeye and finished off with the lemon torte and chocolate mousse. The sunchoke appetizer was probably my favorite. The pesto pasta was so creamy but not heavy and the ribeye was perfectly cooked and flavored. Finally the chocolate mousse.....was out of this world. Will definitely be coming back here. Special shout out to our server Santiago who was so welcoming, informative and all around a delight. And an additional special thank you to him for my birthday treat ❤️

Nice atmosphere and decent pastas but Branzino was not worth $135 and overall none of the flavors truly blew me away. Highlights of the meal were the whipped feta with zaatar, the lemon tagliolini pasta (must-try), and the dark chocolate mousse (great). The Pomodoro pasta was okay but I found the noodles overly thick and chewy. The branzino was tender with a crispy skin but lacked any major flavor profile outside of just lemon and salt, and was quite expensively priced at $135 - it can feed 2-3 people but I personally didn’t find it worth the money. Hard to know if it was just my experience, but overall I don’t think I’d come back here.

I was sad when Periyali closed but this new Mediterranean spot that took the location is actually a step up. We only had a bunch of starters and every dish was perfection. Started with a unique dill infused vodka Martini. The Jerusalem bagel with labneh starter is beyond delicious. The gem lettuce salad is spectacular. The octopus is as good as any octopus dish I've ever had. Yellowtail tartar is bright and flavorful. Lemon cake dessert was irresistible. I can't wait to go back.
