Went here for an important family meal, party of six for lunch. They allowed us to move to a quieter private space which was very kind of them. I believe we got excellent service because it was less busy. The staff was quite helpful. They stopped by every so often to see if we needed anything else. Food was very good. You are primarily paying for the nice venue and atmosphere but the food was quite good. Especially the galbi tang. Each meal comes with a nice selection of classic korean side dishes as well. The mushroom tangsyuu is delicious and was my favorite starter, would definitely recommend. Would come here for a nice classy meal. My third time at Gayeon. Weekend dinner can be significantly more busy/noisy, so plan accordingly.

Gayeon in Fort Lee has instantly become one of my favorite spots, not just for the food but for how easy it was to dine there with a toddler. The dining room felt calm and composed — no blaring music, no chaotic clatter — which made it surprisingly comfortable to manage a small child during dinner. Our toddler could sit, eat, and look around without being overwhelmed, and we could actually hold a conversation without raising our voices. That alone is a big win for any parent. The food, though, is what will bring us back. The fried mushrooms were a standout starter: lightly crisp on the outside with a delicate, almost tempura-like crunch, giving way to a juicy, umami-rich interior. They had this earthy depth that made them feel more like a signature dish than a simple appetizer. The marinated galbi was beautifully balanced — tender, nicely marbled short rib with a marinade that leaned savory-sweet without being overly sugary. Each bite had that satisfying combination of charred edges and juicy center, with flavors that built up rather than hitting all at once. The ribeye was equally impressive: sliced to an ideal thickness, well-marbled, and grilled so the outside carried a gentle sear while the inside stayed buttery and tender. It had a clean, beef-forward flavor that didn’t need anything more than a bit of salt and the banchan to shine. The Iberico pork was a pleasant surprise — incredibly succulent with a natural sweetness and a slight nuttiness you notice after a few bites. It was cooked just to the point of tenderness where the fat softens and coats your palate without feeling heavy. We finished with ice cream that was simple but very well executed: cold, creamy, and refreshing, with a clean finish that cut through all the richness of the meal. It felt like a thoughtful, pleasant way to end the experience rather than an afterthought. Overall, Gayeon delivered not only on flavor but on atmosphere — a rare combination of high-quality food and a calm, toddler-friendly environment. We’ll absolutely be returning.

We were very disappointed with both the service and the portion sizes here. While the restaurant presents itself as fine dining (with pricing to match), the actual experience doesn’t live up to expectations. The staff only delivers food to your table — no additional service like pouring water or helping to separate dishes for sharing. We specifically asked if the cold noodles could be split for sharing (a common courtesy at many Korean restaurants), and the waitress just said, “We cannot.” That’s fine if it’s their policy, but for a place that automatically charges a 20% tip, you’d expect at least basic hospitality. We also ordered two premium sets ($75 each), but the portion size was so small that we initially thought it was just one set. For $150 total, it felt underwhelming and overpriced. Overall, the food may try to position itself as premium, but the service and value definitely fall short. I would not recommend this place, especially when there are plenty of other Korean restaurants offering better food and much better service — often at a more reasonable price.

Despite the average reviews, I really like this place and often come back whenever I’m craving Korean food. The atmosphere is warm and enjoyable, definitely a plus for the overall dining experience. I’ve brought friends and family here, and they’ve all enjoyed it too. Service has generally been good, calm, attentive, and professional. I’ve tried a wide range of dishes, and my go-to favorites are the marinated short ribs and galbitang. The haemul pajeon and black cod gui are also very good, and I’d recommend the mushroom tangsu and fried eggplant with shrimp for appetizers. Their lunch bansang is a great deal, tasty and well-priced compared to other items on the menu. For BBQ, the set is okay. I prefer ordering individual meats since I don’t love every cut that comes in the combo. One perk to note: if you park at the Hudson Lights garage, they validate your ticket, so parking is free.

We went to this place for dinner but had low expectations because of the reviews. We didn’t get the “per person” options but rather opted in to a la carte. The food was delicious. Really high level. Their fried dumplings and seafood pancakes were probably one of the best i have eaten in a long time. Same goes for the Japchae. The meat was cooked to perfection by the waitress who takes care of that for you. We ordered the usda prime ribeye and the marinaded short ribs. Both were delicious. Probably a bit on the pricer side for the size but it’s because of the meat’s high quality. I personally don’t mind paying a little more for high quality food but i get how that might upset others. I think the only negative thing I can say is that the tables aren’t super accessible to the waiters cooking the food and they kind of have to lean in between the people at the table so it’s annoying conversationwise. Other than that really great overall experience and will definitely be back.
