How have I not rated/reviewed Watawa yet? I have been coming to Watawa for at least 4 years now; they're consistently good. I find myself comparing their sushi to any sushi I sample. They are a great local spot. Located in the middle of the block on Ditmars Blvd., Watawa recently underwent massive renovation and doubled their space. I have visited once since their renovation and was happy to see that the food and ambience were still up to par post-renovation. It's often been my experience that when a good place closes down temporarily for renovations, they're never as good as they were when they reopen. The interesting thing about Watawa's food is that I find there to be a sweetness about it. Whether I am there with my boyfriend or family, we usually order a variation of the same few items: Edamame, Gyoza, Shumai, California Rolls, Chicken/Shrimp Teriyaki, and Fried Rice. The Gyoza and Shumai (s) often come with a cherry on the side. It compliments the stickiness and tenderness of the meat/fish really well, though it seems like it wouldn't. I have sampled almost all of their rolls, none of which I can really say I didn't like. Every meal is accompanied by a salad and soup (though my father and brother went recently and could have sworn that the waiter asked them to choose between the two). They have a pretty extensive menu and sake list. Watawa's new renovation includes a much larger dining area, sushi preparation area, and a bar. I find it to be a really nice touch. The bar is this amazing glass thing - a work of art, really. It certainly looks as though they put a lot of effort into making sure the new space reflects what their food and service is all about - efficiency, good presentation, and keeping up with the times. Lastly, their service has always been consistent. The hostess and servers are always attentive and I never feel as though I am left on the back burner, even on a busy night. I will continue to go there as long as they stay open because I truly love their food. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid Japanese meal. I know some people have commented that their food is not "authentic," but it is most definitely tasty. As for its rivals, Sakura, Kumo, or Kitaku, Watawa trumps them all.

Worst experience ever. Looks dark and terrible. Service, don't even bother asking. While asking questions, she's on the phone watching movie, don't even want to spend time answering my questions. Will never go back again.
