FORCED TO PAY FOR A ROACH IN OUR FOOD! The OWNER Justin, COULDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE. He was so rude. Told the server to offer us soda. He made sure that we paid for the entire meal. I'm even contacting health & food services. This is foul. -Our poor server tried to help us the best he could. He was so nice to us but it was not his fault.-
Had an incredible dining experience at Buga Korean BBQ in San Diego that left me absolutely thrilled and eager to return as soon as possible. The moment we sat down at our table, the waiter fired up the grill with expert precision and brought out an endless array of banchan—crisp kimchi, marinated bean sprouts, spicy cucumber salad, and fish cakes that were all so fresh and flavorful they set the perfect tone for the feast ahead, all complimentary and replenished without hesitation. We ordered the premium galbi, thinly sliced short ribs that sizzled to juicy perfection with a caramelized char, the thick samgyeopsal pork belly that melted in your mouth with every bite wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves alongside ssamjang and garlic slices, and the LA galbi beef that was tender, marinated in a sweet-savory soy glaze, and cooked just right to highlight its rich umami; everything was top-quality meat sourced impeccably, paired with steamed eggs that were fluffy and hot straight from the cast iron pot. The staff were phenomenal—attentive yet never intrusive, constantly checking the grill to ensure even cooking, recommending the perfect soju pairings like chilled fruit-infused bottles that cut through the richness beautifully, and even assisting with table-side grilling tips for first-timers, all while smiling and engaging in light conversation that made the lively atmosphere feel personal and welcoming. Sides like the cheesy corn and seafood pancake were showstoppers, with the pancake golden and crispy on the outside, loaded with fresh shrimp, squid, and scallions that burst with ocean flavors, and the restaurant itself buzzed with energy from happy groups yet remained spotlessly clean, with efficient ventilation keeping smoke minimal and the space modern with cozy banquettes. For dessert, the complimentary fruit platter was a refreshing finish, and the bill came in at an unbeatable value considering the all-you-can-eat quality and generous portions that left us stuffed and satisfied; Buga Korean BBQ isn't just a meal—it's a full-on sensory celebration of authentic Korean grilling done better than anywhere else in San Diego, deserving every one of five stars and my highest praise to anyone craving an unforgettable BBQ night out!
Honestly, this is one of the best Korean restaurants for both traditional Korean entrées and AYCE BBQ. The quality and taste of the meat is really good for the price. It does get quite busy on weekends, but the staffs especially many of the male servers are efficient, attentive, and work really hard to keep things moving. Overall, hands down I have no complaints. To some of the people leaving overly harsh comments, try giving the staffs a little grace. The restaurant gets extremely busy at times, and everyone is doing their best to provide good service. Many employees that I have known spend holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day working instead of celebrating with their own families. Come on man. A little patience, understanding, and appreciation go a long way. Let’s be thankful and treat them with kindness.
I'd give this place a solid 3.5-4 stars. Food was tasty and service was usually attentive, minus one instance where server seemingly mistakenly skipped over our table. For this price point for the most entry level option, I thought it was decent but it was not the best value locally. Manna BBQ is a bit less and I feel offers a much more compelling variety. Staff was nice and easy to communicate with. One thing that stands out about this place is the shape of the grills, which are rectangular instead of the circle grates. I feel this design here works much better. Also, the staff had the burner kind of low until we were on our less stretch to finish our food. In hindsight, I wish I cranked up the burner myself sooner to cook the food faster. For two people including tax/tip for I believe the level C AYCE menu...it was about $86 for two people, without drinks. I'm happy I tried this place, but I don't forsee myself coming back given my preference for Manna BBQ.
Went for AYCE happy lunch set for $27pp and was not disappointed. The meat were of good quality and nicely marinated. Ordered assortment of beef and pork and everything came out quickly. I liked the bulgogi the best. The side dishes like spicy rice cake, steamed eggs, fish cake, mixed green salad were all good too! Staff were friendly and worked as efficiently as possible. Decor was simple but who cares? Hilight was the food.
