Stopped by Jook Hyang in Koreatown for dinner and it was a really solid meal. It’s a small, family-run spot that focuses on traditional Korean dishes, and you can tell they care about keeping things homestyle and clean. We ordered the Wild Pine Mushroom Porridge, Abalone & Ginseng Chicken Soup with Sticky Rice, and the Braised Short Ribs & Abalone in Soy Sauce. The short ribs and abalone were definitely the highlight for me. The beef was tender, the abalone had a nice texture, and the soy sauce flavor tied everything together really well. It felt balanced and satisfying without being too heavy. The porridge and the ginseng chicken soup were more straightforward, but done really well. Both were comforting and felt nourishing, especially the soup with the sticky rice inside. Overall, it’s the kind of place you go when you want something warm and traditional. I left feeling good after the meal, which says a lot. I want to comeback to try some other things on the menu.

I heard about this place from the NPR radio station, sometime last year. It introduced the pine mushroom dish, which was not available when I visited due to out of season. Instead, I tried Lotus leaf rice (연입밥), which was luscious, with side dishes! Since then, this place became my favorite traditional Korean food restaurant. So many varieties, cozy setting, on top of great service. Thank you much!

I had a very good experience with this restaurant. My relative stayed at the New Seoul Hotel and I discovered there was a good Korean restaurant there. I returned with my two friends and had dinner together. I initially thought they only served rice porridge, but there was a wide variety of dishes available. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the mixed seafood and Braised Kimchi, both of which were amazing. I also tried the pumpkin porridge, which I had never had before and found to be delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and left the restaurant satisfied. By chance, we met the owner of the restaurant. I complimented a plant on display and she kindly gave it to me as a gift. It was a wonderful moment for me. I will definitely be returning. :)
