I've been a loyal customer of Gamjagol for 22 yrs. The generous portions and good value have always kept me coming back, and I've consistently enjoyed my visits. However, during my recent visit on Saturday, I was quite disappointed. After finishing work, I brought two senior guests with me and ordered the small Gamjatang jeongol, as both guests were over 70 yrs old and wouldn't be able to eat much. When placing the order, the lady staff member responded in a very unfriendly manner likely because we ordered 2.5 portions instead of 3. Even after I poliety said "thank you" following the order, the server simply turned away without a word. Having worked as a waiter myself for 15 yrs, I understand that smaller orders can feel discouraging since the workliad is the same while sales and tips may be lower. But the attitude was disappointing nonethless. It truly felt as if the staff was questioning, "Is that all you're ordering?" Thank you, Gamjagol, for all the years of good meal but this experience left me quited disappointed. I'm also uploading a photo of the food. I'll let those reading my review decide whether this amount is really "too little" to warrant being treated that way, especially considering I was dining with two seniors over 70.
The food at Gamja Gol is outstanding, with authentic flavors and well-balanced seasoning. The ingredients are fresh, and each dish is prepared with great care, bringing out rich aromas without being overwhelming. Their signature dishes are especially memorable, offering a comforting yet flavorful experience that leaves you wanting to come back for more.
The food is amazing! We ordered Gamja Tang, cold noodles, Bo-Ssam. the ribs are soft and delicious with full flavour. Bo-Ssam is my favourite.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in modern times. On my first visit, a staff member (possibly the owner) aggressively confronted me over a rule that was never communicated: leftover bones must be placed in a specific container. There was no verbal explanation and no signage. Any reasonable customer would place bones near their bowl or plate. Instead of politely explaining, he publicly interrogated, mocked, and shamed me in front of my friends. His tone, facial expressions, and attitude were hostile, sarcastic, and demeaning. I was treated like a criminal for an innocent mistake. Basic standards of service were completely ignored: • If you have rules, inform customers in advance. • If a mistake happens, correct it respectfully. • Public humiliation and sarcasm toward customers are unacceptable. Despite this, I still left an 18% tip out of basic decency. That does not excuse the behavior. The experience felt like stepping back into an outdated, disrespectful era. Management seriously needs to address staff conduct and customer treatment. No one should be treated this way.
I had the potato pork bone soup here and it was absolutely amazing! The broth was rich and flavorful, the meat was tender and fell right off the bone, and the potatoes soaked up all that delicious flavor.
