Absolutely amazing Korean restaurant with the sweetest aunties serving all the customers! It's a rather cozy spot with a good selection of dishes. Banchan brought to the table was delicious and we enjoyed everything available. The scallion pancake was LOADED with scallions and so crispy without being greasy! The bulgogi was tender, juicy, and not overly sweet. The kimchi stew was served boiling hot, had a kick, and so hearty and delicious! I can't wait to return
Chunju is still a solid spot for buddaejjigae (Korean army stew)! It's been many years since I last visited. Their prices went upppp. I wanted the braised spicy chicken soup, but they were sold out. I ended up just getting the buddaejjigae. The banchan (side dishes) is still as delicious as I remember. Served by ahjummas. Pretty sure it's the same older lady too. -Valet parking was $5 during dinner time. At lunch, it's $3. I think they had a QR code for venmo, but I paid cash. -Bathroom in the back -No outdoor seating
Okay. Honestly, I never write reviews unless I really like somewhere. But this place really disappointed me to the point where I needed to write a review on the food and the place because of the opposite effect. I really have never had a negative experience with Korean food in LA in years living here, but this was the first. Do not order the sundubu. My boyfriend got it, and it tasted like hot, spicy water. Something was extremely off. We told them it was bland (싱겁다) and we thought maybe for this batch they forgot to add salt or soy sauce or msg or something, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. We hesitated complaining and even contemplated bringing it home and just making it better, but we really didn’t feel good about it so we complained and they made a new one. BUT it came back exactly the same… just spicier and still tasted like water with a weird sweet aftertaste. I was really disappointed. Now for the flies. There were so many little bugs flying around the restaurant I was so annoyed swatting them away from our food, it was gross. I got the yukejang and it was not bad, but honestly for the price, somewhere like Jinsol is better, for same price. Go somewhere else for 한식 Korean food for same price and probably cleaner atmosphere. I do believe other places will taste higher quality. Maybe we just didn’t order the right things it is known for, but I was not impressed with the options considering it is a general hansik resturant. Many better Korean places in LA to eat if you have to choose.
Service is 10/10 no doubt. Staff very kind and helpful. Beef bulgogi hotpot is too sweet for me but they have variety of vegis in it which I really like. The kimchi tastes amazing. A lot of side dishes!!
very yummy and traditional Korean food, I LOVE the grill fish, so good with the wine, and beef hot pot and chicken soup yummy too. kimchi pancake very good too. Easy parking and services very professional and nice, if you like traditional korea food, I will say to try this one.
