This is a smaller Tokyo Central but it is very easy to get in and out and they have everything you will need from groceries, meat, sushi, prepared foods, produce, dishes, gifts, cosmetics and the list goes on and on. Back in the day they had a little poke stand that made the very best poke bowls ever with the nicest lady.. but they ended up closing however I still kept coming to the store because of all the other great stuff. There is a nice flow to the store with produce on the wall to the left when you walk in, sushi and prepared foods to your left, back left if meat and then frozen foods in the rear.. central food isles have condiments, sauces, extensive selection of teas and packaged foods.. then as you move west the checkout side they have all the candy, cosmetics, personal items, gifts, etc.. they fit a ton of great merch into this little Tokyo.. they even have a armed guard at the entrance where if you get silly he will bust a cap.. so keep the soy sauce packets sealed until you are outside and return your carts promptly. Their sushi is super fresh daily and represents a great value compared to a take out place.. great prices on iced green teas.. unique meat and seafood.. just a great place to shop if you don't have all day to roam a big box.
This Tokyo Central location is quite small compared to others. We were hoping to find warm food or bento boxes to eat, but unfortunately, they didn’t offer any. There was no hot food section. I did see some cold food available, but you’d need a microwave to warm it up, which isn’t very friendly for travelers. That was a bit disappointing, especially since we were looking for a quick meal. In the end, we bought some Japanese snacks for the kids. Finally, we decided to drive to another restaurant nearby to dine in. This branch doesn’t really have anything special.
Yesterday, my older sister, Jennifer, and I went to the Tokyo Central Torrance, a Japanese grocery store, for the first time. And overall, it’s a very nice place to go grocery shopping if you want to be healthy. I liked it. There exists plenty of Japanese products to choose inside such as, drinks, fruit juices, soda, teas, deserts, curries, bentos 🍱, rice balls, fruits and maybe vegetables; there’s even American products that we Americans grew up with, but they’re different from the ones we got, if you understand the difference. Not to mention, there exists an adorable plushie of a cute penguin called Donpen, makeup (women only) and products with anime characters such as Naruto and Oshi no Ko (I’m sorry I didn’t watched them, but hey, how could I say no to cute anime girls being cute and funny. Cute anime girls for the win!). Also, the store itself even accepts EBT. There’s so much more to explore, but we have to stop somewhere. In conclusion, the Tokyo Central Torrance grocery store is a place you and I want to come back and visit sometime, and if you want to try something new, then this is place to do so.
There's a big selection of fresh food in this Japanese supermarket. There's a microwave at the front of the store to heat up the fresh food. The fresh food comes with clear reheating instructions. Roasted sweet potatoes are sold here but they're quite tiny.
Love the selection of authentic Japanese foods. It’s plentiful. And exciting the first times you go in. This place loses a point based on sometimes the prices are far excessive of local produce. But I believe that that’s because it’s imported. Also, it’s hard to understand if you don’t know the language and you have to find an English-speaking staff. But they have a reference in English to what it is down the aisle but not what’s on the shelf. So if I’m looking for something specific, I have to look for a picture as opposed to the name. I do Instacart orders there and I can’t find anything that way so often when I do an order for Instacart, it takes me forever to find something unless I can find a member of staff who speaks English. That’s not always possible I love having different cultures available, I love that. But I do think there needs to be a little bit of, you know, integration into the society that you belong. Maybe they don’t want people speaking English? I don’t know but it’s good for their business. and However what I do nowadays and I do this in every store I go to if it’s not completely English is I take ChatGPT. I take a photo of the product and it tells me exactly what it is and what it does. So don’t be put off, take the tools that can help you work through it. It is a cool store.
