I try to avoid using this location bc some of the employees are so rude if you don't look Korean. The security guard has literally stopped me at the door and blocked me from going inside before. When I go with my partner who looks Korean, they're fine, but when I go alone, some of them are so awful. At first, I thought they didn't want to help me bc of a language barrier, but my partner doesn't speak Korean at all, and they treat him fine. I want to keep banking with them bc they're a small bank, but they don't make it easy. The location on Wilshire hasn't been as difficult to work with for me, but I mainly go to the youngest employee there since they're normally not super bigoted.
7 people working at the bank and 5 customers are waiting in the line. Only one teller is open
I don't need to come in physically very often but every single time I do, I'm harassed by security. I went in today and security left his post to follow me, bother me as I was at the waiting desk, then gave me a command to remove my hijab and head covering. I ignored him, did my business then spoke to one of the bankers, informing her of this on-going issue. As I was exiting, the same security person began harassing me again, saying no head coverings are "policy*. He's obviously mentally deranged – every visit he finds some new issue to broach with me. I don't know him nor do I have any reason to speak with him — he's quite literally nobody. The banker I spoke with had to leave her desk to come to the exit doors and get him under control. Whether it's racism or Islamophobia, he better tread very lightly before he meets the consequences of his actions.
I'm the main manager of an apartment complex that deposits about $140,000 every month. This month, I deposited about $70,000 in the first installment... and at the end, I gave him $200 and asked him to make change. The teller asked if I had a Hanmi Bank account (this was the first time I've encountered this in seven years of dealing with Hanmi Bank). I asked why, and he said, "We can only make change for someone with a Hanmi Bank account. If you don't, we'll make change just this once." Just this once... My apartment complex needs $200-$500 in change every month. Every month. So, where should I go next month? If someone authorized by a business account holder who deposits $140,000 every month asks for $200 in change for business expenses, it's the same as the account holder asking for change... It's busy in the morning, and there are other customers, so I just left without asking. It's so frustrating. I need to open another business account for a few reasons... I'm currently discussing with my company whether to transfer all of my accounts to another bank.
It is a Korean bank located in a Korean residential area and is very friendly.
