Amazing location. Super comfy beds and a very spacious suite. The service was phenomenal. But it was a little noisy — both neighboring rooms, and the street noise. The gym was also pretty weak — three cardio machines and free weights up to 30 lbs. Overall a very good option and was pretty affordable. Loved how central the location was.
TERRIBLE, DO NOT STAY This was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have ever had. The first room I was given smelled strongly of fast food, was extremely small, and looked directly into a shop window and office space where people could see straight into the room. I asked to move and was given another room. In the second room I discovered a COCKROACH!! Finding a cockroach in a hotel room in 2026 is totally unacceptable. After raising this with the hotel I was moved again and upgraded to a suite, but the problems did not stop there. Shortly after settling in I found a woodlouse crawling across the floor of the suite. At that point I requested that the room be deep cleaned while I was out. When I returned it was immediately obvious that this had not been done. There were tissues left on the floor, the dressing gown had not been hung up, water and glasses had not been restocked, and the area where the minibar snacks were kept was covered in dust. When I picked items up, dust literally lifted into the air. The service experience was equally frustrating. Room service could not be ordered over the phone and required a specific app. However, the app does not accept international phone numbers, which seems extraordinary for a New York hotel that clearly receives international guests. It took roughly 45 minutes of being passed between staff members before someone was finally able to take my order. Unfortunately the food was also extremely poor. The guacamole and chips tasted sour and inedible, the pasta dish was strangely sweet, and the chicken appeared processed rather than freshly prepared. Between the hygiene issues, the insects in two separate rooms, the lack of proper cleaning, and the poor service, this was an extremely disappointing experience. At this price point, the standards should be far higher. Also, the staff didn’t seem that bothered about the insects in my room and there wasn’t a sense of urgency about anything. I would strongly advise other travellers to consider alternative hotels.
Great location for being in & around Manhattan or going into Brooklyn. I booked because the prices for my weekend of travel were excellent and I could get a small suite which was a nice way to relax at the end of the day. The staff and team were so kind, helpful and informative. Very attentive. Appreciate them for making a work trip feel more relaxing than they usually do.
Mixed feelings about this hotel. Expectations vs cost were pretty much where they should be...nothing special, but nothing bad either. There were a few classic “NYC-style” tricks that felt like tourist traps. They offered valet parking for $70 per 24 hours, which is normal for NYC, but somehow forgot to clearly mention there is also a $40 destination fee. When parking was explained, I was told two days would be $140 and I agreed. When I received the bill, it was $220, so $80 extra. They did bring the car in and out, and each time you’re expected to tip $20, which adds up quickly. Inside the hotel, the lighting is very dim, creating an interesting atmosphere, but unfortunately it also makes the dust everywhere very noticeable, especially around the lamps, which was quite annoying. Service was okay, I’d say closer to a forced 3-star level. That said, paying $730 in December for two nights in NYC is, in my opinion, a good price. Still, a bit more transparency with fees and better attention to cleanliness ( I found hair under the duvet as well) would definitely improve the overall experience.
Heather at the AKA Hotel bar was fantastic — friendly, attentive, and providing truly great service. She also makes the best Old Fashioned I’ve had in a long time: perfectly balanced, smooth, and crafted with real care. The room was very comfortable, and I absolutely loved the bathroom design and layout — modern, spacious, and thoughtfully done.
