First time I stayed at this hotel for business, I had a good experience. Rooms are dated, but clean and location is central to everything. So when I needed to have surgery, I decided to come back and stay here. I was here an entire week- 7 nights and 8 days. During that time, because I had surgery, I did not want to be bothered and so did not have my room or bathroom cleaned outside of one request for additional towels. Upon check out (fully bandaged up) I was charged $25/night plus tax facility fee for "complimentary waters", the gym, and room servicing. Its the details and customer service that matter to me in returning to a hotel. I feel given my situation, that fee should have been waived. I expressed that and I received a blank stare in return. Long story short, I wont be back.Customer service is key!
We spent at week at The Lombardy from overseas and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent and the hotel itself was very peaceful and quiet. Check in and out was easy and the staff were all lovely. Housekeeping was also excellent. The room itself was great, with coffee and water bottles supplied too. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
The Lombardy is a fine hotel. We’ve stayed here twice now and it does the job, but everything is extremely average. The suites are large, especially for New York, but they’re dated and worn to a point of looking dingy. The rooms are also loud - we could hear everything happening in the hallway and the guests above us (who sounded like they were rearranging furniture at 2am). The bellhop was kind, but the rest of the staff is neutral, not warm or friendly. I think the doorman grabbed the door for us the first time we came in, but every subsequent time he watched us walk right past him. For the price point, you can likely find a better option in Midtown.
Very overpriced. I wish I had taken photos, but the room I stayed in was looking very tired. From broken lamps and unclean balcony furniture to outdated decor and loose cupboard handles, it was just disappointing. I also found the concierge unhelpful at times. Some of them had no recommendations for the area when I asked about where would be good to go for dinner, and generally didn’t seem very welcoming (other concierges were nice though—seemed very 50/50). Not what I expected from a 4 star hotel! The area is pretty lifeless, but you can walk to Central Park and Lexington ave subway easily, and can also easily walk to the met etc.
Stayed in a suite, and although the room lived up to the expectations; lobby staff most definitely did not. Doormen rarely ever greeted, the night shift and guy with a toupee just straight up ignored me. Honestly it really felt quite unwelcoming. Front desk staff were accommodating but really the whole vibe of the staff just felt cold. Housekeeping was phenomenal and really were the only ones who ever said hello. I stay in Midtown East regularly, might give them another try who knows. The lack of smiles and greetings made me feel very unwanted.
