Katsu-ya

This was ok. Food was decent but there were a ton of fruit flies and it really bothered me. The katsu seemed fresh and was very crispy. I actually really liked the pasta salad that came with the bento.

Hands down the best katsu restaurant in San Francisco! I came in yesterday and ordered the hire katsu teishoku (pork loin cutlet set meal) — it was absolutely phenomenal. The katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly tender inside, and the set came together beautifully. I've also tried the cheese sando here before, and the combination of the soft, pillowy bread with the filling is simply outstanding. The restaurant itself is spotlessly clean and has a really welcoming atmosphere. If you're craving either Japanese or Korean food, this place is a must-visit. One more thing — their kimchi fried rice is the real deal. As a Korean, I don't say that lightly. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed a quick dinner here without any wait. It's a counter serve traditional Japanese restaurant where you order near the door and then wait for your meal to pick up at the kitchen. Reasonable portion sizes and a variety of ingredients.

No unnecessary human interactions, great for shy people. (Order on machine; water, cups, utensils, boxes ready for self-serve) I like the location too.

Small unassuming entrance. You order at the kiosk at the front (there's one for a Korean restaurant here too) and then sit. There has not been a line or a lot of people inside the times I've been for dinner on a weeknight. Good vibes if you just want to eat alone after work one day. Good amount of tables and chairs and self service water. The food doesn't come out super fast but that's because they have a ton of takeout and delivery orders. But it is pretty yummy and good quantity. I'll keep coming.
