We stayed during Valentine’s weekend and NBA All-Star weekend, so everything in the area was extremely busy — but the hotel handled it wonderfully! The staff was friendly, professional, and on top of everything despite the crowds. The hotel was nice, clean, safe, and very comfortable. We felt completely at ease the entire stay. The restaurant views were absolutely phenomenal — such a beautiful atmosphere to relax and enjoy a meal. Highly recommend this hotel, especially during big event weekends. We would definitely stay here again!
Wow—what a fantastic 10 days! Accessibility done right. From the moment I arrived, this stay felt thoughtfully designed and refreshingly easy. The location is close to DTLA and incredibly convenient—just steps from the 5th Street and 7th Street Metro stations, with easy access to the 16, 18, 20, and 720 bus lines. The hotel itself is massive, with multiple meeting and special-event spaces, and is divided into clearly color-coded towers. I stayed in the Red Tower. Dining options ranged from high-end, upscale restaurants on property to a quick 10-minute walk for more affordable choices—and some of the best Mexican street food around. Options, choices, and flavor everywhere. My room—3141—was absolutely on point. This is where most hotels fail, but not here. Accessibility was clearly considered by design, not as an afterthought. Everything was within wheelchair reach: shower wand, towels, controls, amenities—all at the correct height, with plenty of well-placed safety bars. Hotels everywhere should come here and take notes. The bed was perfectly fluffy and comfortable, with ample wall outlets and a dedicated spot on the desk to charge my wheelchair—an underrated but critical detail. I requested a microwave and received one without hassle. The room already included a safe and mini refrigerator, both positioned at wheelchair level. Being on the 31st floor was heavenly—quiet, peaceful, and offering a great view. The staff truly elevated the experience. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming from day one through the end of my stay. The concierge was outstanding and ensured I could check in even though I arrived 10 hours early. As an elite member, she graciously waived the early arrival fee. The only downside was a $30-per-day destination charge that wasn’t clearly communicated verbally or on the website. That was frustrating, especially since I had no intention of using the $35 breakfast buffet or the spa. One unexpected daily highlight? An incredible food truck parked right out front each day, serving some of the best burritos, chips, and salsa I’ve had. And every single time I returned, the doormen remembered me and welcomed me back—it’s those small gestures that make a stay memorable. Accessibility, comfort, location, and genuine hospitality—this stay nailed it.
The staff at the front desk had quite an attitude and did not do a good job of explaining the features of the mandatory destination fee or directions around the hotel. The walls of the rooms were very thin so it was difficult to sleep at night as sounds from next door and the hallway were extremely loud even until 3 am. The room was alright and the location is convenient.
I’ve stayed at this hotel about 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years. As for the location, I can say it’s very well situated, right in the heart of Los Angeles. The hotel is old but overall well maintained; the only thing that really makes it look run-down is its shopping mall area, which is practically deserted — there are about a dozen open stores left among the many spaces. On this last trip, during the 4 nights we stayed, on 2 of them they didn’t make up our room on time and I had to go to management to ask them to do it; it’s like they forgot to clean the room two days in a row. The parking, as everyone has said, is expensive: 52 dollars per day. Breakfast is also expensive, around 40 USD per person for the buffet, and it’s missing some basic things like more fruits, cheeses and assortment of yogurts and more side dishes. I’d recommend ordering something à la carte instead, like the three-cheese omelet, which is about 28 USD and very good. In general, I really like staying there. They offer good service and the atmosphere is very pleasant. There’s a bar with food available 24 hours a day for night owls, and two panoramic restaurants.
Overall: The Westin Bonaventure has a fantastic location, stunning views, and a nostalgic, iconic presence—but the chronic understaffing and inconsistent service during a major convention was a major missed opportunity. The hotel likely lost significant revenue due to these service gaps. With better staffing and more reliable food service operations, this property could truly live up to its potential. Location: The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites has an excellent location in downtown Los Angeles. It’s close to major attractions, convention venues, restaurants, and transit, making it very convenient for both business and leisure travelers. Rooms & Views: The views from the rooms are truly impressive, offering sweeping cityscape views that are especially beautiful at night. However, the rooms themselves are on the smaller side, which may be a consideration for families or longer stays. Ambiance & Character: The hotel has a nostalgic charm and a unique architectural style. It’s iconic and instantly recognizable, having been featured in numerous movies and TV shows. If you appreciate classic LA history and a bit of retro flair, this is a standout feature. Service (Biggest Downside): Unfortunately, the service significantly detracted from the overall experience. We were staying during a week-long convention, with most guests housed at the hotel. Despite this, many of the on-site restaurants had extremely limited hours, and when they were open, they were severely understaffed. On multiple days, there was only one bartender and no servers, even though the hotel was full. This caused long delays and made it nearly impossible for families and attendees to get food and drinks in a reasonable amount of time before scheduled events. Many guests were forced to leave the hotel entirely to find food elsewhere, which was frustrating and inconvenient. Additionally, the room service app was unreliable. When it wasn’t working, responses from staff varied, but in some cases we were essentially told we were “out of luck” and could not place an order at all. There was no backup solution offered.
